From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Weekend is a term referring to two traditionally non-working days in a seven-day week. HistoryWhile the idea of a non working day goes back to biblical times, the idea of two non working days at the end of every week is not very old. The American concept of the weekend has its roots in labor union attempts to accommodate Jewish workers who took Saturday instead of Sunday as their Sabbath. The first five-day work week was instituted by a New England spinning mill for this reason. In 1926 Henry Ford began shutting down his automobile factories for the entire weekend, Saturday and Sunday. In 1929 the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America was the first to demand a five-day work week and receive it. After that, the rest of the country slowly followed suit, but it wasn't until 1940 that the two-day weekend began nationwide. However in the UK Saturday morning was a part of the normal working week until the mid 1950s when progressively a five day week began over the coming years. From Wikipedia under the

My hubby and I are going for a long weekend, which i totally need, but I miss my baby already. My mother (who will be watching him) asked if she could pick him up the night before we are to leave and I almost started to cry. I told her no. My first time away from my 1st born was hard, too. To cope with it, I brought a couple of her shirts(the scent was comforting), a stuffed lamb she played with (but could live without), and lots of photos & videos. I also had to talk to her on the phone A LOT. My parents made sure she was having fun, so that was a relief, too. Don't worry. Once you start having some fun, you will realize you CAN survive this. After all, you do need this trip. Q. If the jail reported to the court that someone didn't show up for their weekend jail stay, how long does it take the court to react? I called the Fort Bend County Jail and they said she is there this weekend and the court has been notified that she didn't show up last weekend. Defendant is scheduled to be released on Sunday night.
