From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. The telephone (from the Greek: τῆλε, tēle, "far" and φωνή, phōnē, "voice") is a telecommunications device that transmits and receives sound, most commonly the human voice. It is one of the most common household appliances in the developed world, and has long been considered indispensable to business, industry and government. The word "telephone" has been adapted to many languages and is widely recognized around the world. The device operates principally by converting sound waves into electrical signals, and electrical signals into sound waves. Such signals when conveyed through telephone networks — and often converted to electronic and/or optical signals — enable nearly every telephone user to communicate with nearly every other worldwide. I got my mom a cell phone about 2 years ago to bring her up to the technology world and finally have a cell phone. I didnt realize when I got her the phone that the numbers are really hard to see and the key pad is really small for her. I have her set up with Alltel and I know she is due for a new phone soon. Can anyone tell me what kind of phone has bigger numbers and a bigger screen to see who is calling? Asked by Vidapapida - Thu Jun 11 17:38:31 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Hi, I looked on the Alltel's website and there isn't that many phones that have big keypad. And the touchscreen phones most are too high tech for older person. from all their phones I think Motorola Krave ZN4 is the better choice. because it's not too high tech, and it has a good size touchscreen keypad, with this type of keypad is a lot easier to see the numbers, because they are big and bright. and they have a clear screen cover build-in. hopefully that help's a bit. Q. SO, back in the day, there used to be these handy dandy little things you could attach to a phone (like an actual telephone not a cell phone) so that you could rest the phone on your shoulder. Usually made of plastic, nude color, very handy. Whats the name of that? Asked by Krysta d - Wed Jul 30 20:05:42 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. It's called telephone shoulder rest, not a cradle - the cradle is the actual base of the phone where the handset rest when the phone is off-hook.
